The Popcorn Is Here!

We picked up our shipment of popcorn yesterday. Our scout pack sold over $5000.00 worth of popcorn this year. They beat last years pack record by a land slide.

The District Executive had our order neatly stacked and ready to go when we arrived yesterday afternoon. When we got to the church several parents came over and helped sort orders which made the process go surprisingly fast. Half the orders were picked up last night and the rest should be picked up at our scout meeting on Tuesday.

Now all my son has to do is deliver his orders to the right people:)

Water

You don't realize just how important water is until you don't have any. On Tuesday we had a water pipe break. Well actually the elbow joint rusted through. Luckily Tanek saw the backyard flooding and we were able to shut off the water. Vins called the plumber but we didn't hear back from him until that night. He said he would try to make it out the next afternoon. He didn't make it. Finally at noon on Thursday we were able to get another plumber. It took him about 30 min. to fix the problem. Lucky for us the rest of the pipe (so far) was fine.

Unfortunatly the pipes run under our sidewalk and then under the asphalt driveway. We will cross our fingers. If the pipe breaks in any of those areas we will be looking at major problems.

So, two days without water doesn't sound bad except you need water for EVERYTHING. Washing clothes, washing dishes, cooking, bathing, brushing teeth, etc. We made do with a couple gallons of water and thankfully Vinson's cousin let us borrow her shower while they were out of town.

You can not imagine how happy we were when the water was turned back on.

Sticking to the Schedule

A few weeks ago we decided to try something different. We created a schedule for each day of the week and so far it seems to be working pretty good. The kids don't whine as much when I announce it's time for lessons and picking up. They can look at the schedule and see what is supposed to happen and when.

Of course, there will be days when things have to be a little more flexible or we have to exchange one day's schedule for another. I am very happy so far with the results. I feel like I am accomplishing more and have more direction to the day.

Take a Hike

Today we took our cubscout pack on a hike at the nearby State Park. The weather was beautiful and we had a fun 2 mile hike. This was the first hike for some of the kids but they did great. The area was a little more hilly than we expected but it didn't bother the boys although it wasn't fun for the parents. Everyone packed a lunch and we ate beside the lake halfway down the trail.

After the hike we took them to a playground and they still had enough energy to play for awhile. Oh to be young and full of energy!

In the Local Paper

A week ago Bunkie had its annual Christmas parade and fireworks. Vinson took pictures of the parade for the local newspaper. I shot a few pictures at the fireworks show just to see how they would look. After I downloaded them to the computer I showed Vinson one firework shot that I really liked. He agreed it looked great. The following Monday Vinson was at work and asked me to email his pictures to the paper and he told me to throw in the fireworks picture too.

I just received a call from him telling me my picture is on the front page of the Bunkie Record and the news editor has been getting good comments about it from readers. While Vinson has been published in the paper numerous times (he even won an award for a fire picture he took) this is my first time.

Parade Time

It's Christmas parade time! On Saturday our Cub Scout Pack was in the Bunkie Christmas Parade. The kids had a great time riding on the float and throwing candy. It was pretty hot for December so most of the kids were in shorts (in a Christmas Parade! ). It doesn't feel like Christmas when you are sweating in the sun! Guess I should be glad it wasn't raining.

Since my kids didn't get to watch the parade or catch any candy (like they need candy). We spent Sunday in the hot sun so they could watch the Cottonport parade. They came home with a bag full of candy. All in all the kids were very happy with their weekend.
